Topped with a sweet and spicy honey glaze, you will feel like you are eating at a fancy restaurant… without the price tag or the hard work of creating fancy meals at home!
And the best part? It’s super easy! The prep time only takes about 10 minutes, and you need just five ingredients. Winner winner, chicken dinner!
What Is Prosciutto?
Prosciutto is an Italian ham that has been cured by air drying. The meat comes from a pig’s back leg.Prosciutto is technically uncooked meat, but is safe to eat because of the way it has been cured.
The curing process of prosciutto is very long. It can take anywhere from 1 to 3 years!
And why make chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto ham? Because it keeps the chicken super juicy!
How To Cook Prosciutto Wrapped Chicken
To get started making this baked prosciutto wrapped chicken, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Next, prepare the sauce by combining the honey, chili flakes, and minced garlic in a small bowl.
Place chicken into an oven safe baking dish. Add salt and pepper to both sides of the chicken breasts, along with 1 teaspoon of the honey mixture on each.
Wrap each chicken breast with three pieces of prosciutto and drizzle the remaining honey glaze on top. Now you are ready to bake it, which takes about 30-40 minutes.
PRO TIP: Take special care to make sure you don’t overcook the baked chicken prosciutto. Chicken becomes tough, dry and doesn’t taste as good when it has cooked too long. Check out my tips on how to tell if your chicken is cooked properly below.
How To Tell If Chicken Prosciutto Is Done
The best way to tell if chicken wrapped in prosciutto is done is to check the temperature with a thermometer.
USDA recommendations say that chicken needs to be cooked to at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit for safety. However, if you let chicken rest after baking (which I always recommend), it rises in temperature another 5 degrees, so I usually bake it to 160 degrees and let the temperature come up during resting. Just make sure it’s 165 degrees before you eat it.
Some people also check if chicken is done by piercing it with a fork – if the juices run clear, it is likely done. Or, you can also cut the chicken and look at the color of the center. It should be white and tender. However, both of these methods don’t allow for resting, which means the chicken is not as juicy as it could be.
PRO TIP: For the juiciest chicken, bake until it’s 160 degrees F inside, then let it rest for 5 minutes to come up to 165 degrees F. The final result should never be jiggly and should be firm to the touch.
Is Prosciutto Wrapped Chicken Healthy?
Yes, prosciutto wrapped chicken is healthy. Chicken breasts are low carb, low fat and packed with protein. The chicken is also a great source of calcium and phosphorus. There are small amounts of minerals and vitamins in prosciutto, including iron, vitamin b-12 and protein.
Of course, making the chicken wrapped in prosciutto and including honey means that this is no longer a low fat or low carb dish. But, the myth of “fat is bad” has been dispelled, so I don’t consider low fat foods to be the picture of healthy. The amount of honey in this prosciutto wrapped chicken recipe is small, so it’s not much sugar per serving.
Most importantly, honey glazed chicken with prosciutto is unprocessed, made with natural ingredients, so that’s healthy in my book!

You can reheat the prosciutto chicken in the following ways:
- Microwave – Simply place baked prosciutto chicken in a microwavable dish and add 1 tablespoon of water and cover with a damp paper towel. Microwave for 1 minute and then check the chicken. Heat for longer if needed, until hot.
- Oven – Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Heat the chicken in the oven and check every 5 minutes until it is heated through.
- Skillet – Place 1 tablespoon of avocado or olive oil in a skillet on low-medium heat. If you heat the chicken too fast, it will dry out. Slowly heat the chicken breast with prosciutto until it’s hot.
TIP: I highly recommend the oven or skillet if possible, because the prosciutto stays crispier than the microwave.
